Layton's Wicked Remarks

November 14, 2006

So anybody can be wrong some of the time, but it takes a real genius to be wrong all of the time...

Before MEWL's last show at the Alliance Armory, Wicked, I predicted Lones Oaks would be foolish to take a re-match with Sherman Tank so soon after being demolished in their last match up. I told Oaks to rest up, recuperate, and come back at 100%. Well Oaks proved me wrong by not only taking the match but taking the gold, once again becoming the North American Champion.

Speaking of champions, I insisted "Killer" Chris Kole and Shane Sensation would leave the Armory as the new MEWL Tag Team Champions, finally shutting up B.E.T. Well, you can guess what happened there... your winners, as the result of a disqualification, and STILL Tag Team Champs, Black Entertainment Tag-Team.

And I didn't predict a winner between Jazin Blaze and Marion Fontaine, but if I had I would have pegged Blaze to take a second straight win over the talented, but less experienced, Fontaine. Oops!

So do I feel completely incompetent? Like a total screw up who can't get anything right?

Usually. But I called those matches the way anyone betting on the smart choices would. Tank had already shown he could easily handle Oaks if the challenger wasn't at 100%, and I knew there was no way Oaks would be at 100%. Blaze is a former Cruiserweight Champ who already had one win over Fontaine, so why not assume he could get another? And Kole and Sensation are the best tag team in wrestling today. Period.

So I don't see this as a case of me being incompetent, so much as I see it as a case for how good the MEWL stars are, and how unpredictable the action is. You never know what's going to happen on an MEWL card, but you can be sure if you miss one, you'll miss out!

So what's going to happen at the Alliance Armory on Friday, Nov. 10, when former WWE/WCW Superstar Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake and TNA Knockout Traci Brooks show up? What's the outcome going to be when MEWL Cruiserweight Champion Sharkboy returns to action at the Dover Armory on Saturday, Nov. 18? I don't know... but I know it will be good!

There has been a lot of noise lately about the NE Ohio indy scene, and companies that were once thought dead coming back to life, and supposed rivalries that exist between MEWL and other companies. Well I can tell you all of that is just idle gossip. We here at MEWL wish only the best to everyone on the indy wrestling scene, as it is a tough business, and more companies means more shows and more places for wrestlers to learn their craft and more fans. That's good for everyone.

But we also know only one company on the scene has been going full-speed ahead for over a year now, growing bigger and bigger with every show. That's us, MEWL. You don't have to wait two years between our shows, and we don't need to rely on Eminem wannabes for heat. Instead, with the help of fine sponsors like Dale's Leather Depot and Mangos, both at the Carnation Mall in Alliance, and Wicked Tattoos in Minerva, and with support from all of our great fans, we just keep on doing great shows. We do our talking in the ring, not on message boards.

If you've seen one of our shows, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, then what are you waiting for?

I'll see all of you Nov. 10!
