Layton's The Ties That Bind Remarks
June 25, 2006
Well it looks like Main Event World League has its own Voldemort.
Our "He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named" is a former Main Event Champion who walked out on the promotion before our June 17th show, "The Ties That Bind."
So the edict has come down from the front office: he's dead to us. Ignore him. He no longer exists as far as MEWL is concerned.
And you know what? They're right to do it. His conduct was unprofessional, to be kind, and childish if we're being more honest.
So goodbye, good luck, and good riddance.
Otherwise, what a show! It was good to see gold around the waist of Lones Oaks again, the only thing that could make him look any better than being accompanied by "Sexy" Lexi Lane already does, though it was disappointing to see him become a champ in such a fashion.
Then there was G.M. John Orlando and his hands-on role. It's no secret I'm a fan of our General Manager. He's a real class act who brings law and order to MEWL while not forgetting that a little unexpected action is what makes wrestling fun. And he came through again in spades Saturday night, laying down the law against "Hot Commodity" Matt Mason and Jayme Braxton, while booking the outrageously unpredictable match of Otis vs. Logan "THE TOOL" Scott for our next stop in Alliance. I for one am looking forward to watching Scott staring at those arena lights!
Then there was the Dog Collar Match, in which "The Pure One" Justin Diaz swerved MEWL fans once again, putting one of his Apostles of Light, "The Natural" Christian Vaughn, in the ring against "Big Guns" Jeff Cannon. It may not have been the match Cannon wanted, or the one we fans wanted to see, but it was a brutal, bloody brawl nonetheless, and one that won't soon be forgotten.
And speaking of something that won't soon be forgotten, I have it on good authority that the Championship Committee was impressed with Jazin Blaze's outing in the main event, and they are thinking long and hard about making him the number one contender for Diaz's title! Wouldn't that be something? The so-called "champion" put himself in a bout with Blaze thinking it would be like a night off, and instead the former Cruiserweight Champion nearly took home the gold. Now Diaz might have to face Blaze yet again! I for one would love to see that match, and maybe with the Apostles of Light banned from ringside. How about you? Well you know what to do if you'd like to see it: Take to the forum and let them know what you think!
But all of that aside, I think the best thing about "The Ties That Bind" is that it offered evidence once again that MEWL is the real deal. We're in there month after month, plugging away, providing the absolute best show we can, and judging by the folks who keep coming back we must be doing something right. But we're not going to sit back and rest on our laurels; we're trying to build something great with MEWL, and while that starts with becoming the best indy in Ohio, and I think we're well on our way to that title, it ends with being the best damn promotion in the country. I think we can do... I think we WILL do it, and all those unprofessional little boys who walked out on us will come to regret it, whereas all you fans will be able to say "I was an MEWL supporter way back when..."
We're heading to the top, folks, but we can't do it without you. Thanks for all the support!
