They sure aren't called Team Brain

March 20, 2007

Whew. Have you missed me?

Sorry these Lowdowns have been so few and far between, but things have been awfully busy for E.J. lately. I've got a day job, so my MEWL work sometimes has to take a backseat to my other responsibilities.

In fact, I'll let you in on a little secret that you probably already know: Nearly everyone on the indy wrestling scene has a day job. They bust their butts all week, then hit the ring and break their backs to entertain you. So when you watch those guys taking chairs upside their heads, remember they're not doing it for the money, they're doing it for love. They love the business, they love the sport, they love popping a crowd. I don't know about you, but I find that level of dedication much more fun to watch than some spoiled millionaire pretty boys trading rest holds.

But there is no resting in MEWL -- we keep on going and going. We've only been at it for a year and a few months, but we're already the number one indy in NE Ohio. And rather than rest on our laurels, the front office has gone out and lined up "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiasie and the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time, the Honky Tonk Man for appearances in Alliance. Check out the site for more information about that, and be sure to come one out and see these living legends. It's just MEWL's way of thanking you for making our first year such a good one.

Speaking of our first year being a good one, it sure has been good to Wilbur Whitlock. Oh, sure, he got a little haircut from Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, but he has also captured the North American championship twice in the last 365 days. And it looks like there is some friction between Lones Oaks and "The Natural" Christian Vaughn because of it.

If you missed it, Whitlock, Oaks and Vaughn squared off in a threeway match, where the first fall was for Vaughn's Hardcore title and the second was for Oaks? North American. Oaks pinned Whitlock for the first fall, briefly becoming the North American and Hardcore Champ at the same time, before he was pinned by Whitlock.

Well all I can say about this situation is that Oaks and Vaughn blew it. They both despise Whitlock, and they were both champs. Now only one of them is carrying gold and Wilbur is riding high again. All they had to do was double team Whitlock for a good 15 minutes or so, then take turns pinning him. Instead they fought each other, and Whitlock is the only one who came out looking like a winner. I guess that's why they are called Team Pain and not Team Brain.

Speaking of friction among teammates, Shane Sensation and "Killer" Chris Kole nearly came to blows at No Love Lost, before patching it up and deciding that Shane would be allowed to act as a substitute partner, and Tag Team Title holder, to Jazin Blaze on any events where Kole can't attend. Well I'm sure that will fix the problem, and we'll never see tempers flare among this team ever again.

I'm going to make another of my famous predictions, and we all know how accurate they usually are: It won't be too long before Shane and Kole are once again at odds. These two just can't seem to stay on the same page, and in my opinion that is the only thing that has kept them from being the top team in the world - and I don't think that's hyperbole.

And what about Blaze? Where will that leave him? The sky is the limit for this fiercely talented youngster, and he can't afford to allow the soap opera that is Kole and Sensation's strange relationship drag him down.

For what it is worth, Jazin, a little advice from the Lowdown: Jump off that ship before it sinks.

OK, that's the Lowdown for this go 'round. I'll see all of you in just a few weeks.
