THE REV REVIEWS: Radiant Fallout (6.21.08)

(Disclaimer: The views expressed in the following are purely those of the columnist.)

There are certain points in history where people were able to say that they remembered where they were when a particular event occurred, be it the day Kennedy was shot, when Elvis died, when the Challenger blew up - the list is never-ending.

And now wrestling fans will be able to say where they were the night the Mother of All Bombs was dropped on MEWL

The night began with Diaz announcing the return of none other then Lones Oaks to the MEWL roster. Diaz explained how he didn't like what he had to do to Lones -- who needed to take some time off for surgery -- and that since Diaz had to strip him and Mike Hercum of the Tag Team belts a few months ago, as compensation, Lones would get a shot at Jebediah's Heavyweight Title. Diaz also announced that he'd be returning to singles competition , and offered up an open challenge to anyone in the back. Out came none other than Supa Lucha to accept the challenge. Diaz makes the match a non-title one, out of respect for Lucha taking a match at the last minute.

In the opening match, Chris Kole was to face off against Johnny Gun - but before the match even started, a ref brought a note down to the ring announcer that stated the match was to now be a Handicap Match; Mike Hercum would serve as Gun's partner tonight. This surprise didn't sit too well with Kole, who thought he was getting an easy night. Despite the odds, Kole ended up with a tainted win.

Angel Dust came out to the ring and asked Jessicka Havok to accept her challenge for the Women's Championship. Jessicka entered the ring and told Angel Dust that until she proved herself worthy, she didn't deserve a title shot. (Pardon me whilst I run that through my BS-to-English translator; what she meant was probably "I know you could beat me, so I'm going to throw a roadblock in your path so I can hold onto my belt a little while longer." Yes, that sounds about right) Havok then gave her an opponent to wrestle with the stipulation that if she won, she'd get the title shot she wanted tonight! Shane Taylor entered (WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?), squashed Angel Dust like an ant at a picnic, then assisted Havok in punishing Angel Dust until Bane stormed the ring and cleared it. (AH, nothing like a force of nature to clear the air) Bane then challenged Taylor to a match later in the card.

N.A. Champion Brandon X defended his belt again Luis Diamante. This one was, without any doubt, one of the 2 best matches of the night. Both Brandon and Diamante fought back and forth at a furious pace, and it was a question of who'd pass out first from sheer exhaustion. In the end, it was Brandon X getting the win and retaining the title.

The saying goes, "Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill." This was the catch, in a way, with the match between Justin Diaz and Supa Lucha. There were several moments in the match where Lucha exhibited his speed over the much older Diaz that got me laughing. At one critcal point, Diaz was down and ready to be pinned -- but Lucha committed a critical and fatal error by hesitating to finish him off; the question had to be eating at him - "dare I pin the boss?" This momentary pause was all Diaz needed to pin Lucha and get his first win since returning to action.

(A note to Supa Lucha: Remember this old saying -- "He who hesitatesgets pinned.")

The -- and I still can't believe I'm saying this -- MEWL Tag Team Champions, Wilbur Whitlock and Durty the Clown defended the titles against Jazin Blaze & Eric Ryan. Folks, I have to give this one my "MATCH OF THE NIGHT AWARD" (and you know I don't give that award freely). Blaze and Ryan, though young and new as a team, are an incredible combination, and I'm going to out on a limb here and say that it may not be long before these two end up with the gold. Sad to say, though, this was not their night. They ended up with the DQ loss when Wilbur hit Durty -- his own partner, mind you - with a chair behind the ref's back and then threw the chair to Eric Ryan, just as the ref turned around.

OkayI believe in giving credit where it's dueand though it kills me to say it, Wilbur, my hat's off to you. That was one of the most original moves I've seen in some time. And kudos to Durty for taking one for the team.

Shane Taylor and Bane went hammer and tongs in a match that rattled from the rafters.and made me worry about the tensile strength of the ring! Bane managed to get Taylor up in the air for a massive spine buster, but Taylor managed to get back to his feet (and I don't know howthat hurt to watch). Taylor attempted a high risk maneuver with Bane down, but then Bane recovered, grabbed Taylor, and nailed him with a power bomb so thunderous that I wondered where Bane had been keeping that nuclear warhead he unloaded Taylor was not getting up from that onslaught, and Bane got another MEWL win.

After al the dust settled, it was time for Lones' Heavyweight title match against Jebediah. The match had only gone 5 minutes when Lones went down clutching his neck and chest where he had his surgery. The ref pushed Jebediah away and made a signal to the back. This brought Diaz out to stop Jebediah from doing any further damage until they had a chance to check on Lones.

Lones managed to steady himself with a chair that Jebediah brought in, and Diaz helped him to his feet. Out of the blue, Diaz dropped Lones throat-first on the chair! What the hell was going on here? Then they start putting the boots and fists to Lones, telling him that payback is a bitch, and yelling that he didn't get away with it. I had no fracking clue what Diaz was going on about. From the looks on the faces of the crowd, no one did either. Then Diaz said he had a "special surprise". He grabbed his cell phone, made a quick call, and seconds later, in came a couple of ghosts from the past: MCW owner Shasta and wrestler GQ Status.

Folks, few things can ever leave me speechless.and I have to admit that I stood there, speechless at the sight, my jaw hitting the floor.

Shasta grabbed the mic and proceeded to tell everyone how it was MCW that built this business in the area; Lones had tried to cash in on the success that MCW had by taking the ring and half the roster from MCW as well as running shows in the same towns and buildings that MCW did. Shasta went on to say how Lones couldn't even be original with a promotion name -- he chose to use Main Event World League to try to separate himself from Main Event Championship Wrestling, and even used the Bio Hazard-style logo like MCW. Shasta promised that he and Diaz had been setting things up all along to pay back Lones for his betrayal, after all the blood and sweat they used to build up MCW. Shasta and Diaz then had GQ pass out free tickets to the next show in Dover, OH on July 19th compliments of the only TRUE promotion in the area...MCW!

As all this transpired, I saw the wrestlers in the back had been coming out of the locker room and were standing all over the building looking very, very bewildered. Shasta, Diaz, and the others immediately left the building without going into the back. Nobody seemed to know what in the name of sanity was going on and to tell you all the truth, I'm not all that sure myself.

Is MCW back to take over?
Is this just a shocking but incredible storyline?
Or is all the bad blood between Lones and Shasta finally coming to a boil?

I don't know, folks, I really don't.

I'm still getting over the shock of all that happened.

But I'll tell you thisI think this is just the beginning, the opening shot, the tip of the iceberg, pick a metaphor. And no matter what you call it, it has the possibility of getting very ugly very fast..

Until next time, I'm the Reverend Rogue Six, and I'll see you at ringside!
